By visiting (and partially reviewing adult-sites) during the last year I found there are now two different strategies used by websites. The first is to make any downloads as slow as possible and urge you to keep your subscription alive as long as possible. You have to open each picture one after the other (can't even use tabbed browsing and of course not right mouse-click to save directly from the overview) and have to save it individually to your harddrive. A typical representative for this is the Realswingers site - just read my review and you will know what I think of this strategy. But even this can be topped: I was recently subscribed to the Rachel Aziani site-system and found, that all downloading is also hampered this way - even more: Any pic you want to save has the same name so you have to rename each pic you download! I honestly have to say I consider this webmaster behaviour very shortsighted. Most of you will surf adult sites for fun like me, but such sites easily turn into hard work very fast. This is not fun anymore - how can they think we would keep our subscriptions alive for a longer time or even return at a later time? I promise Rachel Aziani will have to wait a long time for me to resubscribe!

The other strategy is the exact opposite of the one described before: Just making the site as comfortable as possible to make the users like it, keep it and come back. This means at first you can download any content with ease - there are not the slightest blocking or hampering measurements. This also means there are ZIP-files available. I have to say ZIP-files are my personally favorites when I visit a site - I normally try to find out before I subscribe to a site whether it uses ZIP files having a look at the preview of the site and of course trying to find an actual review of this site. ZIP files are very comfortable to handle, right-click, download and unpack, that's all. Unpacking nowadays either can be done by using the built-in utility in Windows XP or by several Un-ZIPping programs - some of them of course freely available. Under XP you treat a ZIP-file like a directory and thus can copy any files with ease. I personally have bought PKzip which has some advantages with broken ZIP-files (can repair them) and can be used as a command line tool for faster unzipping. But back to the sites: You can download ZIP-files like pictures, even often parallel or stacked - that's what I call great service!

Just as representatives and examples of this strategy I name the Kelly Madison site and the Teenrotica site, which I reviewed a short while ago. They are all great to visit and paradise for downloaders - I bet you will not be astonished when I'm telling you I was a member of Kelly Madison for four times and I expect that won't be all! As a bottom-line you should clearly understand this: If you want sites to be comfortable to download you have to act politically: Avoid the blocking and uncomfortable sites - prefer those offering a great service!

Do you download? Sure you do! There are so many nice ladies on all those great websites - who shouldn't want to make his harddisk happy with them! Do you try to get as many of those gals as possible and you're downloading as fast as your hardware is capable of? Ouch, do you know you are a leecher and some webmasters perhaps might hate you for that? You don't? You do not believe this since you paid for membership? I do and we'll discuss this!

To make two confessions right at the beginning - I do download and I do try my best to get as much as possible - just like you. Since I did this for more than ten years now and thus was subscribed to more than 1200 adult sites I think I know what I'm talking about.

To get the whole situation you should understand first that there's no such thing as free stuff - even those sites which do not have the intention to make money (which I consider to be a small minority) have to earn some money to pay the bills for server and bandwidth use. You believe smut should not be paid for? Well, understand that you either have to concentrate on promotional offers like the TGPs or you have to steal!

Knowing this it's much easier to understand the position of the webmasters. They will love you sincerely if you keep a subscription alive and won't use the site that much - you are paying but not causing costs! Most websites do not pay strictly by the bandwidth that's been used by members but a base price including a given quota of bandwidth in giga- or even terabytes. So it's clear: as soon as too many users are downloading too much the limit might get exceeded which increases the cost of the site - webmasters will do their best to prevent this - at least if the number of subscriptions is not big enough.

But that's not all: Most webmasters fear copyright violations by downloaded and re-published stuff such as in newsgroups and file sharing services. Ever noticed the warnings on some sites? They furthermore fear that the content might get shared with other users thus reducing the number of possible subscriptions. And thirdly they want to keep the load of the servers low to make their usage as comfortable as possible without causing them costs.

What webmasters however fear (and fight!) most is the sharing or hacking of passwords. It's obvious any download quota will quickly be exceeded if a site is massively used by lots of unauthorized users, so this leads to a substantial damage very fast and is thus (correctly) regarded as theft. I have experienced a few times during the last years that websites were closed down because of this and twice I lost legitimately bought passwords by hacking attacks - luckily not by attacks on my system but directly on the site-server. So I started to protect myself by using randomly generated usernames and passwords unique for each subscription I have. Since the pressure by hackers and smut-for-free-guys is still very high, webmasters also have to protect their sites. They use systems like Pennywize, which first blocks a username at once if it is used twice at the same time from different ip-adresses and secondly automatically watches the download behaviour and download quota of each subscriber. If you download stuff manually, normally nothing should happen, but if you get too active these systems automatically block your account depending on a given amount of Megabytes you are allowed to download per day. They might also automatically change your password. Sometimes such systems are badly or viciously configured. I once made such an experience with the site of Alexus Winston, which had a download limit of only 50 MB/day. I then had a 1MBit DSL-connection meaning I could reach that limit within only eight minutes! Since there was nobody on the site to direct my complaints to (or perhaps was thinking the measurement was alright) this subscription was money for nothing - a site that will never receive any payment from me again!

On the other hand the total blockage of downloads is rated as very bad style and very user-unfriendly. I personally (and all other reviewers of Adult Reviews too) would rate a site low if it was to block downloads completely. Luckily this happens rarely, my last experience was with the Belladonna-site  around two years ago. Its content was weak but its protective measures were top! This site was a shame for a top Pornstar like Belladonna - perhaps that's the reason why a complete rework is announced now! I considered it really a poor joke when they wrote that they did this due to picture-redistribution - and I was looking around and found (obviously bought photo-series because of the better quality (!!) ) on lots of other adult servers!

Last year, my ex-girlfriend responded to an ad on Craigslist that was posted by the webmaster of a gay website who was searching for folks to critique gay porn sites and she started writing reviews for the guy for twenty-five bucks a pop. My ex proudly informed me of her new career in smut and I thought to myself, “Hey! I want twenty-five bucks to watch guys fuck!” So I sent in some samples and scored a gig writing for the website. Two months ago, my ex contacted me and we attempted to mend fences; the mending of fences was put on hold when I learned she gave a writing assignment to her new beau. Quite frankly, her guy’s writing is shitty and I was offended that he was getting work that he did not deserve, especially when I’m actually trying to make a living as a freelance writer and could’ve used that gig to help pay off my mortgage. I told her that I thought her boy’s review was shit and she replied condescendingly, “It’s just a porn review!” 

This patronizing attitude is the chief reason why most smut reviews are completely unreadable. The writers and editors of most porn review sites look down on their work and they look down on their readers. I mean, how many reviews have you read where the reviewer actually said something to the effect of, “Click on the thumbnails to see larger images”? Too many, I’d wager. Yes, I know these reviews aren’t Shakespeare, but that’s no valid excuse for churning out garbage that reads like grade school book reports. As someone who has been burned by countless lousy smut sites, I feel that porn reviewers perform an important service for consumers and I think it’s our responsibility to pen amusing, insightful and honest reviews of the sites we are paid to look at. Sadly, though, I am in the minority here. Most writers care very little about their work and it shows—go read any smut review at random and I guarantee you’ll find it littered with typos and undeserving praise for a site that is clearly a rip-off. Not only do these hacks lack talent, but they lack spines as well—they write glowing reviews of crummy sites because they are afraid to step on anyone’s toes.

Think of this rant as a call to arms—if you find a review site that consistently posts honest and entertaining reviews (you know, like this one!), then make it a point to click on all the links you see and help the site make some dough, which they can use to lure decent writers into this industry. If you find a review site that consistently posts boring critiques that are dishonest and pandering, avoid ‘em like the plague and maybe they’ll go belly-up. You can also write your congressman, but I sincerely doubt it will do any good.

Being a bit of a boob lover - well to be honest I would live in a tit if it had windows; I tend to go for big boob sites, not may I add the terrible silicon look that some well known USA porn stars have. Although they are rapidly becoming ugly old women instead of just ugly young ones. Big Naturals used to have quite a lot of solo girl work, ie. playing with tits and masturbating. Now even these videos are being taken off and replaced with just fuck videos. Seems to take away the whole point of “big naturals” when most of the video consists of fucking and its associated close-up work. Guys who like big tit sites like to see big tits and not big fairies (slang in UK for female genitalia) An old Roman term from the days of Gaius Julius Caeser was piggle-wiggle which I think is delightful. Sorry, I digress. As I said video quality is in the main poor and the further back in time one goes the worse it gets. It then gets to a point when the small sized videos posted and the very poor quality make them not worth the effort. 

Busty Adventures is a much better buy. The girls are much better looking and there is some very very sexy boob lay for quite a long time at the start of each and every video before the fucking starts, so if like me you don`t like watching fucking – I hate looking at hairy arses – and just like sexy boob play then join, its a great site. Quality is excellent throughout. Quantity is large, I filled 3 x 4.7 gig dvd`s and still left some behind on site.

I also joined Scoreland. Poor me – its terrible! Most of the women are just plain ugly with fat bodies that can only produce big tits, not slim bodies with big tits which are of course the thing. They bounce their tits for you in every video - but it is just not sexy. They just stand there looking at you with stupid looks on their faces bouncing up and down, not sexy at all. The video man at Score should take a leaf out of the book of one Daktari Lorenz (of Bettie Ballhaus fame) when it comes to videoing big boobs, he is superb. He has the girls doing natural, everyday things whilst naked, ie. cleaning teeth, washing hair, drying hair etc. all shot from low boob vision angles. Videos like this are far more sexier by a mile. Imagine the gorgeous Ines Cudna washing/drying hair whilst topless, videoed from below, that is the type of work Daktari does. On Score she stands and jumps rather aimlessly -pooh! I am sure you big boob fans get my drift.

Video quality on Score is almost all pretty poor. On most fast moving scenes the whole of moving picture just pixelates into large squares. So it's like looking at a square tit bouncing about made out of a jig-saw. Downloades are fraught with confusion. For example, a video of say Topsy Turvy! now that's a name for you – is numbered 01 then you go to Alyssa Alps her video is numbered 01, then go to Lisa Sparxx her video is numbered 01. Well you get my drift. The videos are not named and all videos, including the split ones are all numbered the same. So many many are all numbered 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 etc. regardless of which girl it is. Sort that lot out whilst you download them. Its not too much to ask to give each video a name I am sure. Also they do not use CCBill or Paycom as one is led to believe I would be VERY careful as to cancel is not going to be easy. This is the first site I almost fell down on and just because they used a biller I was not told about on sign-up page.

I see lots of sob stories from web-site members which I think may well be avoided with being careful before signing up. First off, I always without fail make every attempt I can to go through the cancelation process. If it proving difficult, or in some cases impossible – do not join. It is no use trying to cancel 1 month down the road and finding out you don`t know how to. This does happen.

Check out the intro pages carefully. I have looked at a couple of sites of late where there is one simple page showing 5/6 lovely girls, then they proceed to say “more like these inside” but fail to show you any. They declare there are “tons of videos for members” yet do not give any acurate details. Avoid these sites like the plague -UNLESS- some trustworthy site such as Adult Reviews has already reviewed web-site and given it the thumbs up.

Only pay for one months membership - never any more - if you hate the content you can stand the loss of $30 or so but not 3 or 6 months worth of membership. Also if you truly like the site then make a note of it, a small black book is very useful!! then re-join 9/12 months later and pick up all the new content and you will have a years worth of material for 2 months membership–someone will have paid maybe 12 months fees to get exactly what you have just got. Always write down site details in this little black book!! CC used, date joined, biller used, ie CCBill, etc. leave nothing to memory, you don`t know how important this info could be down the line.

Well these are just a few of my safety tips before you join a site. I will later on relate to you what my reasons are for liking a particular web-site and why I detest some with a vengeance.

As a consumer, I read porn reviews for two reasons and two reasons only: I want to know what’s on the site and if the site is worth joining. So, basically, my goal is to write interesting reviews that are grammatically sound and devoid of typos and misspelled words. I hope I have met this humble goal in my time at Adult Reviews.

Thought it might be interesting to provide in insight into what kind of adult pay sites, I personally like.

First of all, I really love sites with high quality photography. I guess some would say that I am old school and why see pictures when you can watch videos? And it's not that I don't appreciate great video sites, in fact some of my favorite sites (I'll get to that later) are pure video sites. I just think a single perfectly shot picture says more than a thousand words or rather frames to compare to a video.

I have a number of photo sites that I love to check out once in a while and catch up on the latest updates. One of these is SimonScans. The girls on the site are girl-next-door types rather than professional adult models. And it's not just the few girls next door that look like Mandy Moore or Jessica Simpson, but ordinary girls looking to make an extra buck as a nude model or wanting to try out nude modelling just to see how it would be. The girls dress up in lingerie and elegant makeup before they start off with their first photo shoot where they get comfortable with the situation and gradually strip until they are naked. Often you will notice how the model gets more and more comfortable in the following series. Even comfortable enough to do some pretty hardcore masturbation and insertion scenes with big dildos.

Another one is Abby Winters which is an Australian site featuring mainly Australian girls or girls who are visiting Australia on their vacation. The models are also girls next door and as opposed to SimonScans, the girls are shot in their everyday clothes and often even without makeup. It seems that Abby and her photographers have a preference for shooting the models in outside surroundings, at least quite a lot of photos are shot in a park, on the beach or other public places. Not that any flashing goes on though.

When it comes to REALLY high quality pictures, my choice would be Hegre Art. His models are very pretty and he experiments with many different settings right from the basic white background to exotic locations as a roof top in New York City, a cliff in South Africa or a yacht in Saint Tropez. Sometimes you even think to yourself that these shots almost belong in a museum. If you haven't yet experienced a 6000x4480 picture, then do yourself a favor and take a look! With pictures this big, you can even crop a portion of it and use it as desktop wallpaper, something I have done a couple of times.

As I said previously, I do also like video sites. I prefer what you would call non-mainstream video sites, that don't offer rips of porn DVDs. Again I am a sucker for high quality videos that look really good.

A site such as In The Crack offers exactly that - high quality and a unique style of videos (and photographs for that matter). The focus is often on a single model. Most of the time, the models are well known porn girls such as Sophie Moone, Sandra Shine or Sophie Paris. The video clips each has a special theme to it such as "Planet of the Gapes" where the detailed description is as follows: "This clip is entirely all about spread pussy and ass viewed from behind, first standing over your face and then on her knees with her ass in the air. At first mostly just her pussy gapes open but then with her ass in the air her pretty pink anus begins to relax and actually opens up into a nice smooth hole."

The only drawback here is that to watch the videos, you have to buy a lump of tokens that you can then use to buy clips individually. But the videos are unique and spot on if you are into this type of content.

• Search results can now be sorted
  When you search for a site name, site URL, category or anything else, you can now sort the results as when displaying the categories.
